St. Nicholas Party

Our community group mommas had a St. Nicholas party with the our kiddos a couple of weeks ago. Shay read the book "J is for Jesus", the story of where candy canes come from (very cool story), and the story of St. Nicholas (He was a REAL man that loved the Lord and gave sacrificially to those in need....I would recommend looking up the whole story of who he was if you haven't before). A few days before the party each mom took her kids to the store and let them pick out new school supplies for some kids in Honduras that our church helps each year at Christmas. We wanted the entire focus of the St. Nicholas party to be about giving to others. So, their first giving was bringing their bags of school supplies to the party to collect for the children in Honduras.

After collecting the school supplies and reading the stories, the kiddos sat down and made homemade Christmas ornaments to give to some special people in their lives (those special people will be revealed at Christmas :)

Lastly, they got to decorate candy cane sugar cookies to bring home and give to their dads (They got to have one, too :)
Gabbie was really proud of her decor' :)

Before we left we snapped some cute photos with Frosty the Snowman :)

I loved this idea of having a St. Nicholas party...def want to make this a tradition every year. I think it is so important to instill in them the real meaning of Christmas (JESUS) and help them develop a heart for giving to those in need vs. the consumer mentality that is so prevalent in our culture at Christmas time (or really year-round for that matter). I want this to be my heart, too....not just my childrens' :)
